Engage Your Students with this Syllabus Quiz Activity
Have you ever felt like a talking head when going over your syllabus? No one is listening except for that one student who cares about your grading policy. I promise. Soooo instead of just reading your syllabus, try doing this syllabus quiz activity instead: start with a syllabus puzzle!
For a class of 30 students, you need 15 Ziploc bags, 15 copies of your syllabus, scissors, and a laminating machine if you want to be fancy!
Before Class Prep for Your Syllabus Quiz:
- If you want, laminate each syllabus first.
- Cut each of the syllabi into about 12 medium/large pieces. ONLY CUT ONE SYLLABUS AT A TIME.
- Label your first Ziploc bag as #1 and label each puzzle piece for that bag with a #1 just in case they get mixed up.
- Place all the pieces in the Ziploc bag and seal.
- Repeat for the next 14 syllabi puzzles.
- Print out enough copies of the syllabus quiz for every student!
How To Play:
- Place students in pairs.
- Tell the class that in a moment, each pair will receive a Ziploc bag but they cannot touch it until you say go. Once you say GO! Their mission is to piece together their syllabus. When they finish, they need to raise their hand and you will bring them each a syllabus quiz to complete.
- Distribute the bags and say GO! When you are ready! *You may even want to reward the first pair that finishes!*
I collect the syllabus quiz as they finish, but you could wait and go over it as a whole class!
